Frosthaven challenges and trials

Updated

Challenges are an unlock, not a default rule. The FAQ says to shuffle the cards at setup and not use them until the campaign unlocks them.

Unlocked challenge and trial rulings

Barbed checks whether the target is undamaged at the start of the attack. Keep Watch affects both characters and summons; objectives never take turns, so attacks against objectives have disadvantage.

United Advance checks whether at least one other character is at the card's 2/3/4-hex distance at the end of your turn. It does not only check the nearest character.

If a monster consumes an element to make an attack multi-target, this happens before the first monster acts. A challenge modifying single-target attacks no longer applies to that ability.

  • Trial 0355 counts enemy standees only, not scenario allies or summons.
  • Building 90: on gaining three checks, the associated section can be read immediately after the scenario. Follow the unlocked instructions for the resulting Town Guard perk.
  • Trial 0359 can grant checks for each battle goal completed while held; more than one goal per scenario can count.

Questions

Should I be doing challenges?

The FAQ does not rank them. They are off until unlocked. After that, the perk track is the mechanical reason to consider them.

Do trials count summons?

Trial 0355 does not. It counts enemy standees only.
